  • Decree of Convocation

    The Archbishop has issued a decree of convocation, which officially begins the synod.

  • Synod Convocation Mass on Pentecost Sunday

    The Archdiocesan Synod will open with a Convocation Mass on Pentecost Sunday, 8th June 2025 at 11:00am at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. All are welcome.

  • Synod Dates in 2026

    The Synod gatherings will take place over two sessions in 2026. Between now and those sessions preparations, including listening and consultation will take place.

    Session One: 29 & 30 May 2026

    Session Two: 27 June 2026

SYNOD FORMATION SERIES

This formation series, offered online with some in-person sessions, will provide people from across the Archdiocese an opportunity to go deeper into the themes, practices and theology as we all prepare for the 2026 Archdiocesan Synod. The Synod will affect everyone in the diocese, what does that mean for you and your parish, school, or community? All are invited to attend the formation sessions.

  • Kelly Paget - Spirituality of Synodality

    Kelly has been engaged in Ministry throughout her working career, particularly in the areas of Catholic education and Youth ministry. Her current role as Chancellor in the Diocese of Broken Bay and Head of Mission supports and engages the broader mission of the Church. In 2023 Kelly was chosen by the Holy Father to participate as a Non-Bishop Member in the 16th General Synod of Bishops.

  • Archbishop-Elect Shayne Mackinlay - Discernment and Decision-Making

    Archbishop-elect Shane Mackinlay was named by Pope Leo IVX as the next Archbishop of Brisbane. He was ordained the Bishop of Sandhurst in 2019 after 28 years of ministry as a priest of the Ballarat Diocese. Before being appointed as bishop, he had taught philosophy for twenty years, and for nearly 10 years was Master of Catholic Theological College in the University of Divinity, Melbourne. He was the Vice-President of the Fifth Plenary Council of Australia and was one of the Australian bishop-delegates to the Synod on Synodality 2023 – 2024

  • Br Ian Cribb SJ - The Holy Spirit: Agent of Synodality

    Br. Ian Cribb SJ is the Provincial Delegate, Jesuit and Ignatian Spirituality Australia. He supported the processes for the 5th Australian Plenary Council and was an expert advisor at the Synod on Synodality.
